Snow
It's all about snow, my friends. I live in upstate New York, it's halfway through January, and it was raining this morning. We don't have any snow on the ground, and in the capital of New York State, they are still waiting for their first half-inch this year. At first, I thought I would enjoy some cool weather without snow - I mean, a December without snow gumming up the roads and no bitter winds freezing your fingers straight through as soon as you step outdoors. A nice change of pace, right?
Well, the thing about Upstate New York is that without snow, it's basically just a barren wasteland between November and March. When everything not man-made takes on a lovely shade of gray-brown, the beautiful hills of the Adirondacks somewhat lose their charm. My little brother was just hired as a ski instructor a few months ago, and to my knowledge hasn't worked a single day.
Out the window, something that looks suspiciously like snow flakes is falling in the place of the rain this morning. Nothing is sticking to the ground, but it makes an old New Yorker sentimental...
